Eleni Sideris

Readington Township, NJ- Mrs. Eleni (“Nitsa”) Sideris, 82, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, February 20, 2012. Born in Gytheion, Greece, daughter of the late George and Garyfallia Kalapothakos, she married her beloved husband, Stefanos Sideris and together with their two daughters emigrated from Greece to the United States in 1969. They raised their family in West Orange, eventually settling in Readington Township in 1996.

Eleni was a beautiful woman inside and out. Her love for the Lord and her family permeated every aspect of her life. Additionally, her Greek hospitality and love for cooking made everyone feel welcome and cared for in her home. Her philanthropy extended to her involvement with the Ladies Philoptochos Society of the Greek Orthodox Church as well as the Parent Teacher Organization where she served as President for many years. She was a long-time parishioner of Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church formerly in Orange and Holy Trinity in Westfield. Most recently Eleni was a parishioner of St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church in Flemington where she was hoping to worship in the soon to-be-built new location on Voorhees Corner Rd.

Eleni is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-two years, Stefanos Sideris with whom she entered into Holy Matrimony on November 15, 1959. She was the inspiration behind her husband’s success as a world-renowned impressionist artist and with God’s blessing they created a beautiful life together. She will be deeply missed by her loving daughters and sons-in law, Fay and Paul Vespa and Angela and Jorge Ferreira all of Readington Township and her three adored grandchildren, Aleena, Phillip and Stefania Ferreira, who were her pride and joy. She is also survived by a beloved older brother Theodoros Callas and his wife Theodora and beloved younger brother Michael Callas.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Thursday, February 23 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with an 8 pm “Trisagion” prayer service.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the temporary home of St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church located at the Allerton United Methodist Church, 104 Allerton Road and Route 31 South, Annandale, NJ 08801. The Funeral Services will be preceded by Orthros/Divine Liturgy starting at 9:00 a.m., with Fr. Anastasios Kousoulas of St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church presiding. Eleni will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eleni’s memory to the St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, PO Box 2505, Flemington, NJ 08822.
