Robert T. McKnight

Raritan Township, NJ – Robert T. McKnight, 86, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Hunterdon Care Center in Flemington. Born in Newark to his late parents John and Mary (Gusching) McKnight, Robert was a resident of Union for forty-five years prior to settling in Flemington fourteen years ago.

Robert was honorably discharged in 1946 from the United States Navy after faithfully serving his country during WWII. In 1988, he retired from NJ Transit where he worked many years as a bus driver.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Margaret Welsh and his brothers George, Charles and John McKnight. Robert leaves behind his loving wife of sixty years Doris (Burns) McKnight with whom he joined hands of marriage on May 10, 1952 and their son Robert and his wife Brenda McKnight of Flemington. He is also survived by his adored granddaughter Sarah McKnight and by his dear siblings; Regina Dengel, Mildred Schneider, Marilyn McKnight and Thomas McKnight.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:15-9:45 a.m.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 9:45am in the funeral home followed by a 10:30am funeral liturgy at St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. Burial will follow in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery located in Wrightstown, NJ.
