Raritan Township, NJ— Richard Stanley Van Sickle, 80, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013 at his home with his loving family by his side after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in New Brunswick, son of George and Elizabeth (Furman) Van Sickle, he was a long time resident of Edison Township moving to Hunterdon County in 1987.
Dick was honorably discharged from the United States Navy where he proudly served our country during the Korean War. In 1986, he retired as Captain from the Edison Township Fire Department after 30 years of dedicated service. The founder and first president of the Fireman’s Officers Association for Edison Township, he was an avid entrepreneur starting several firms, the last of which was Metcom, Inc. located in Edison, NJ.
A communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges, Dick belonged to their Men’s Club and was a member of the VFW Post #7856 of Flemington, NJ.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Margaret Gavin.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Ann C. (Januszkiewicz) whom he married on June 8, 1957. He will be deeply missed by his two sons and daughters-in-law; Robert S. and Anna of Amherst, NH and Kenneth C. and Linda of Bethlehem Township, NJ and by his two sisters; Joyce, her husband Robert Dillmeier of Clearwater, FL and Katherine Leeds of Edison. Dick also leaves behind his five adored grandchildren; Joseph S. of Atlanta, GA, Sasha of NY, NY, Alyssa of NY, NY, Samantha of Bethlehem Township, NJ and Michael C. of Amherst, NH.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 beginning 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 9:30 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges. Dick will be laid to rest in the family plot at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Brunswick.
