Josephine S. Alonzo

Raritan Township, NJ – Josephine S. (Schmidt) Alonzo, 85, entered into eternal life on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Hunterdon Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Charles and Josephine (Metz) Schmidt, she resided in Bridgewater for forty-three years before recently settling to Flemington. She also was the sister of Clara and Harry Schmidt, both deceased.

Josephine was a graduate of King County Hospital, School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY. She worked as a nurse for several years before staying home to raise her four children. She also worked alongside her husband, Jack, with his business, Microscopy Research Labs. A very faithful and religious person, she was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges and a former communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Raritan.

Josephine enjoyed cooking and reading.

Josephine leaves behind her devoted husband of 63 years, Jack R. Alonzo, their four loving children; Stephen (Kathy) of Scotch Plains, Regina Scheirer (James) of Titusville, John (Dana) of Flemington and Joann Franck (Dave) of San Antonio, TX and by eight cherished grandchildren and an adored great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be held at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Monday, January 21, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. and on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 9:45 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 beginning 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges. At the request of the family, final disposition will be held privately.

Memorial donations sent in Josephine’s name to the Shrine of St. Jude, 414 E. 92nd Street, NY, NY 10028 would be appreciated.
