Antonette Marie
Caputo
Jun 17, 1932 — Dec 21, 2024
Flemington
Antonette Marie Caputo, 92, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at her home in Highland Park, NJ.
Born Antonette (Antonietta) Marie Rivezzi on June 17, 1932, in Beaver, PA, her parents moved the family back to Italy when she was a few months old. She grew up in her parents' ancestral town of Formicola and lived there during World War II. At the war's end, she became engaged to her future husband, Nicola, and they married on September 29, 1951. They decided to move to new opportunities in the United States, and pregnant at age 20, she journeyed across the sea to establish residence in the United States, had her child in December, and was reunited with her husband when he arrived in March 1953.
Known as Nonna to her grandchildren and their friends and Ninetta to just about everybody else, she worked as a seamstress at the Hodes Dress Company and Bronson Hat Factory at various times when her children were young, and worked at Shoppers World later on.
Her main passion, besides her children and grandchildren, was tending her garden, which she established in the back yard of each house she called home, and keeping the family supplied with the fresh fruits of each harvest. She said that she loved to feel the dirt beneath her feet.
Her other interests included sewing, knitting and spending time with family and friends. She was a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Seton Seniors.
She was preceded in death by her parents Michele and Maria Maddelena Rivezzi, her brothers, Peter, Gerardo and Giovanni Rivezzi, and her husband, Nicola Caputo.
She is survived by her sister Carmelina Migliucci; daughter Gloria (Jeffrey); three sons, Salvatore (Paula), John (Ghislaine) and Michael (Dorothy); seven grandchildren, Christopher, David, Daniel, Michael, Nicola, Genevieve, Olivia, Adam and Bethany; two great-grandchildren, Sabriel and Luca and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.; and on Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 9:45-10:15 a.m. The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 105 Summer Road, Three Bridges, NJ 08887. Entombment to follow at St. Magdalen Cemetery in Flemington, NJ.
