Obituary

Brigid B. (McCaffrey) Pfenninger, mother of five children and retired Delaware Township Tax Collector. Brigid died Monday, December 2, 2013 at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness.

Born in Killeshandra, Ireland, she came to the United States in 1949. She lived in Flemington, NJ and graduated from Hunterdon Central High School in 1961. She was a secretary at Dural Rubber Company and married Erwin (Murphy) Pfenninger in 1963. Together, Brigid and Erwin owned and operated Pfenninger's Hilltop Inn in Flemington beginning in 1969 and Pfenninger's Perryville Inn in Perryville beginning in 1979. She worked for Delaware Township for twenty-five years becoming their tax collector in 1991.


Brigid was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Margaret (O'Donoghue) McCaffrey; her son, Matthew Pfenninger; her sister, Rose Wawrzyniak and brother, Patrick McCaffrey.


Surviving are her sons, Brian Pfenninger and Mark Pfenninger and his wife Sherri of Flemington; daughters, Theresa and her husband Stanley Novak and Brigid (Breege) Pfenninger of Flemington; daughter-in-law, Lisa Pfenninger; sister, Mary Perehinys of Ringoes and brothers, Philip McCaffrey and Joseph McCaffrey of Flemington. Her family included six grandchildren; an uncle, Christopher McCaffrey; eleven nieces and nephews; and nineteen great nieces and nephews. Her Irish blue eyes, her warm smile, and kind heart will be deeply missed by all.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Saturday, December 7 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.


Funeral services will begin on Saturday, December 7 at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 12:30 p.m. funeral liturgy at St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church. The disposition will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brigid's name to Hunterdon Hospice or Hunterdon Cancer Center. 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822.
