Obituary

Glen Gardner, NJ– Daniel King, 61, entered into eternal life on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, NJ, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Flemington to the late John L. and Jennie (Izzo) King, he had lived in Bernardsville and Somerville prior to settling to Glen Gardner in the early 90's.

Besides his parents, Danny was predeceased by his nephew, Brian Keith Helstowski.

Danny is survived by his loving sisters, Mary Ann King (formerly Helstowski) of Deal, NJ and Shirley A. Vill of Flemington; niece, Amy Jo Merz and husband Matthew of Flemington and nephew Chris Helstowski, Sr. of Henryville, PA.  He will be greatly missed by his great niece Alexandra Merz and three great nephews Chris Helstowski, Jr., Collin and Bailey Merz, and many Godchildren.  In addition, his beloved dog, Abby, and cat, Missy.

Danny was a motor head, loved all things automobilia, and thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors. His energy, humor, and love were contagious. He was always happiest surrounded by his friends, of which to him were also family. He attended Bernardsville High School as the class of 1976 and spent his early years working with his father on a farm in Basking Ridge, NJ. In the late 70's to early 80's he worked at Peapack-Gladstone Coach Autobody, where his love for automotive restoration flourished. He later worked for the Road Department for the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation in the late 80's, worked in construction in the 90's, and spent the last twenty years as a plumber and HVAC technician. Danny's true passion was, however, always bodywork and painting. He saw the beauty in machinery and appreciated the craftsmanship and dedication required to restore cars and motorcycles to perfection. He could often be found tinkering with anything mechanical. He loved all things nature, the open road, and a warm campfire. And always had to have music playing. He had no reservations when it came to good loud music, good loud friends, or good loud pipes. To Danny, the louder the better. He proudly owned many Harleys and loved to ride. He was a member of the Hunterdon Hogs Motorcycle Club in the late 80's and early 90's and would fondly recall the many pig roasts and rendezvous' the club was a part of. He cherished all living things and couldn't stand to see anything suffer. He always had a special relationship with any animal to cross his path and loved his many pets dearly. Danny will be forever known for his kindness, his wit, and his undying love for everyone. Although he no longer walks this earth, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who have known Daniel King.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 (for input into a GPS system, use Flemington, NJ 08822) on Friday, March 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. with a prayer service taking place at 7:30 p.m.
