Reading, PA.—David W. Terhune, Sr., 78, entered into eternal life on Tuesday September 19, 2017 at Reading Hospital in West Reading, PA. He was born in Dover, NJ on July 31, 1939 to the late Burgess and Hazel (Conklin) Terhune and raised in Dover and Parsippany New Jersey. Besides his parents, Dave was predeceased by his brothers, Burgess Terhune, Sr. and Richard Terhune.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife, best friend and lover of 52 years, Dorothy A. (Dottie) Terhune; two loving children, David and wife Barbara of Wyomissing, PA and Jennifer and her husband David Sparrow of Readington, NJ, a devoted grandfather known as PopPop. He will be deeply missed by his cherished grandchildren -- Alicia (Terhune) Kline, Charles Terhune, Kaitlyn Terhune, Jacob Sparrow, Matthew Terhune and Victoria Sparrow and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dave faithfully served his country in the Army, serving two years as a Radio Operator until being honorably discharged in April of 1965. A draftsman and engineer assistant for Jersey Central Power and Light of Morristown, NJ for 28 years. An active Knight of Columbus at Good Shepard Church in Andover, NJ and recently was honored as a 4th Degree Knight with St. Paul's Church in New Bern, NC. He was an active church volunteer serving as a liturgical sacristan and always willing to help as a handy man. Dave had many hobbies: model boat builder, avid craftsman and woodworker, and a musician in younger days. Dave would share stories of his as a banjo player of the Denville String Band commonly known as "Pappy's Banjo Boys" in local venues. Dave's proudest musical moment was being the band director and player in the Philadelphia Mummers New's Year Day Parade.
A devoted family man with his wife always by his side, caring for his children immeasurably and adoring his 6 grandchildren. He had his wit and charm to the end - keeping everyone smiling and spreading laughter.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 30, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. meeting at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Whitehouse Station, NJ. Committal words and interment will follow at Good Shepard Cemetery, Andover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus, Council #3303, PO Box 13903, New Bern, NC 28561 in memory of David W. Terhune, Sr.Visits: 0
