Flemington, NJ - Diane Marie (nee Walsh) Dzurenko, 77, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington with loving family by her side. Born and raised in Newark, NJ, daughter of the late Peter and Rosemary (nee Ward) Walsh, Diane resided in Sayreville, NJ upon marriage, lived for a couple of years in Levittown, PA, then spent 40 years in Middletown, NJ before settling in Flemington in 2011.
Diane was a graduate of Arts High School in Newark and then went on to earn her undergraduate and master's degrees from Kean University in Union, NJ. She was a technology coordinator and teacher in the Keansburg School District in Keansburg, NJ for 25 years before retiring in 2011. Diane never shied away from taking on positions of leadership to better her community. She was particularly proud of her time serving as a union representative for the Keansburg Education Association and she authored many grant applications to bring cutting-edge technology and programs to her school discrict. Diane had a strong passion for volunteer work, a passion which she enjoyed sharig with her husband. She was a former member of Christ Episcopal Church in Middletown where she served on the vestry. She was a member of the Flemington Woman's Club where she was former president and current trustee and attained the honors of Order of The Lily. She was also a member of the Newcomers Club of Central NJ where she served on the board. Diane was an avid reader and collector of stuffed animals, in particular Steiff teddy bears. Diane was very much enjoying her retirement years in Hunterdon County with family and friends and truly enjoyed all of the social gatherings with them.
Besides her parents, Diane was predeceased by two sisters, Patricia Vitiello and Rosemary Cataldi; and her granddaughter, Allison Vandal.
Diane is survived and will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 57 years, Stephen M. Dzurenko, with who she joined hands in marriage on August 6, 1966; two loving children, Stephen M. Dzurenko, Jr. and his spouse, Jill Douglass of Austin, TX and Holly and her husband Eric Vandal of Readington, NJ; dear brother, Lawrence Walsh; and four cherished grandchildren, Anna Dzurenko, Grant Dzurenko, Ryan Vandal, and Kara Vandal; and several nieces and nephews with whom she maintained close ties.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Monday, March 25, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Diane's name to Safe Harbor, 115 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.
