Raritan Township, NJ- Doris G. (Gillhuly) Schaefer, 82, entered eternal life on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Foothill Acres Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Hillsborough. Born in New Brunswick, daughter of the late John Gillhuly and Isabelle (Burnat) Mumford, she had resided in North Plainfield before settling to Three Bridges.
Doris was a graduate of Temple University where she obtained a degree in nursing. She was an operating room nurse at Muhlenberg Hospital formerly in Plainfield. She then joined Dr. Boise and Dr. Dean in Plainfield where she retired in 1991 as a registered nurse. She is a former communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield and presently of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges. Many years ago she was a member of the Jr. Women's Club in North Plainfield. Doris enjoyed time spent at her beach house, reading and especially the time spent with her grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband John E. Schaefer who died on May 6, 1987.
Doris is survived by her loving son and daughter, John Scott Schaefer of Columbus, OH and Diane and her husband Joseph Scarbaci of Raritan Township. She will be deeply missed by her cherished grandchildren Eric Joseph Scarbaci and Alison Scarbaci.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Saturday, February 4 from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4 at12:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains privately.
