Obituary

Raritan Township – Evelyn Ruth Hamrah, 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Flemington
with her loving family bedside on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Born in Holton, KS to the late
Milburne and Edith (Johnson) Axelton, Evelyn was raised in Meade, KS, and spent most of her
life in Dunellen and settled in Flemington in 2004.

She took great pride working for AT&T in Basking Ridge where she was employed as a Human
Resource Manager. Evelyn also formerly worked for the Middlesex School District where she
taught Home Economics. As an active and independent woman, Evelyn was a longtime
President of the Dunellen Board of Education, a former member of their High School Booster
Club, and a member on the board of the Middlesex County Educational Service Commission and
the Middlesex County School Board Association.

After moving to Flemington, she joined the Board and was a Flemington Fields Association
committee member. Evelyn loved being social and could be found playing cards, specifically
Bridge, and attending social events in her community, however, her favorite time spent was with
her family, especially her grandchildren.

Predeceased by her husband Cary Allan Hamrah who died in 1991 and by her sisters-in-law:
Evelyn Nagy, Freida Ehid, and Jean Nagy, and brother-in-law Kayo Hamrah. Evelyn leaves behind
her loving children; Cynthia Povall (Michael) of Flemington, Craig Hamrah (Anita) of Upper
Saddle River, Cara Hamrah of Flemington, and Chad Hamrah (Jennifer) of Middlesex, cherished
grandchildren; Katie Povall, Carly, Thomas, and Matthew Hamrah, Nicholas, Brett, and Lauren
Schenck, and Cary and Abigail Hamrah. She will be missed by her sister Carolyn Meredith (Otis)
of Meade, KS, and by many nieces and nephews.
