Flemington, NJ–Evelyn "Toots" Shirley (Ziegler) Gray, 85, died Friday, September 11, 2009 at Hunterdon Care Center, Flemington. She was a lifelong resident of Matawan prior to moving to Flemington in 2003. Evelyn worked for 17 years in the Food Service area of the Matawan/Aberdeen School District. She was an avid cross-stitcher, cook and baker and during World War II was a "Rosie The Riveter" at the GM plant in Linden. She was the daughter of Harold & Phoebe Ann (Bendy) Ziegler.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Vincent M. Gray. She is survived by her daughter and husband, Margaret & Wayne Nodes of Flemington; two sons and daughter-in-laws, David & Lori Gray of Langdon, ND, and Tim & Lori Gray of New Port Ritchey, FL.; two sisters, Ruth Eovino of Matawan and Ethel Pennetti of Middletown, CT; and a brother, Arthur Ziegler of Peachtree, GA. She is also survived by 4 granddaughters, Jennifer Moran, Lynnsey Nodes, Sarah Hammond and Jessica Feim; two step-grandchildren, Matthew & Marcia Usher; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2009 beginning 9:30 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges. The disposition will be private. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. until service time.
