Obituary

Florence M. Palka (née Varga), 91, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Independence Manor in Flemington, New Jersey.  She was born in New Brunswick in 1931, grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey, and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1949.  Afterwards, she graduated from Drake's School of Business and was employed by Bankers Commercial Corporation as an auto loan processor after graduation.

Florence married Joseph J. Palka on August 8, 1953, and in January 1956, they moved into a house they built in Martinsville.   It was there they raised their two children, Diane and Joseph.  When the children were in high school, Florence went back to work as the receptionist for Greenfield Convalescent Center in Bridgewater.
Florence and Joseph were members of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Martinsville until 1983, when they moved to Readington.  There, they joined St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Flemington.  Joseph passed away in October 2011, and Florence continued to reside there until June 2022, when she moved into an assisted living facility, Independence Manor.
Florence loved her family - her husband and children, her six brothers and sisters and their spouses, and her many nieces and nephews.  Family gatherings were frequent; birthdays, holidays and special occasions were always celebrated with lots of homemade Hungarian food.
Florence was predeceased by her husband, Joseph J. Palka Sr., her brothers Joseph and his wife Eleanor, Stephen and his wife Louise, and Edward; her sisters Theresa Bonillo and her husband James, Irene Kagan and her husband Alexander, and Elsie Schumacher and her husband Leslie; nephews Leslie Schumacher Jr. and James Bonillo Jr.  She is survived by her daughter, Diane Gorgy and her two sons, James and Robert, her son Joseph and wife, Kathe and their two sons, Joseph and William: her sisters-in-law Margaret Varga and Bonnie Varga, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Arrangements will be private, and she will be interred at Bound Brook Cemetery next to her husband and near many of her predeceased family members.  Donations in her memory may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Three Bridges, NJ.
