Hillsborough, NJ – Frederick Paul Coppola, 84, entered into eternal life on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at his residence with his loving family by his side. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA until the age of 13 to the late August and Ameida (nee Fornaciari) Coppola, his family later moved to Palmyra, NJ. He graduated from Palmyra High School in 1955. Fred entered into college at Rutgers University- College of Engineering at the age of 16 years old. As a junior, he topped in academic achievement for the first semester with a 1.211 average, with the highest possible of 1.0, placing him third in the entire student body of the engineering school. Later in his senior year, he received the Hamilton Watch Award for Scholastic Achievement. He then married his college sweetheart, his beloved wife Danielle. They started their married life together in Highland Park, then Plainfield, before settling to Hillsborough in 1964, where they raised their three children.
Fred had a passion for design, classical music, great literature, travel, and nature conservation. He enjoyed landscaping around his home, doing the New York Times crossword puzzles, poker games with his close friends, and was a die-hard Yankees and Rutgers fan. He was a civil engineer for Raritan Township for twenty-one years, after leaving his own private practice, Community Design Associates in Piscataway. He left a legacy in his work by balancing his designs around nature including parks, bike lanes, safe routes for schools, hiking trails and improved infrastructure for the betterment of the community he served. He retired in 2012 after 50 years on the job, to spend his days with his loving wife and family, his dog and cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
Frederick is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Danielle D. (nee DiLonardo) Coppola with whom he joined hands in marriage on October 28, 1962; three loving daughters, and grandchildren.
Private funeral arrangements are entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Heart Association.
