Hillsborough, NJ – George "Casey" Baran, 95, entered into eternal life peacefully on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at home with loving family by his side.
Born and raised in Beaver Meadows, PA, son of the late Andrew and Mary (nee Zeleznock) Baran, he moved to Newark, NJ after marriage. As an activated Navy Reservist, he was relocated to Bainbridge, MD.
After his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Plainfield, NJ, then, to Middlesex, NJ where he opened his delicatessen, and he then finally settled in Hillsborough, NJ in 1975.
George faithfully served his country with the United States Navy from 1945 to 1951 as a ship's cook third class.
He served most notably aboard the USS Attu and USS Xanthus while earning several medals.
He began his working career as a meat cutter, and then opened his own delicatessen in Middlesex, the Boro Delicatessen, commonly known as George's.
After selling the business and moving to Hillsborough, he worked at Foodtown in Hillsborough as a meat cutter for several years until his retirement. In his younger years, Casey enjoyed photography and after retirement took on several hobbies including gardening, woodworking, building furniture, and raising chickens.
He was very talented and creative and some of that talent could be seen through his intarsia woodworks. George's greatest passion in life was his family.
He spent endless hours the last several years of his wife's life to be her dedicated and loving caregiver.
He was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges, NJ.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen on March 30, 2021; his grandson, Brian Baran; and seven siblings.
George is survived by two loving children, Cynthia A. Beam and her husband Lauris of Dunellen, NJ and George M. Baran and his companion Kim Markle of Port Jervis, NY; dear sister, Dorothy and her husband, Louis Goffredo; two cherished grandchildren, Jessica Barber and Casey Baran; two adored great grandchildren, Madelyn and Everly; many nieces and nephews; and many great neighbors and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Tuesday, September 20 from 3-7 p.m. and on Wednesday, September 21 from 9:15-10:15 a.m.
Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, September 21 at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges.
Committal words and entombment will follow at St. Magdalen Mausoleum in Flemington.
