Raritan Township, NJ – Gordon M. Eyler, Jr., 80, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at home with his loving wife by his side. Born in Paterson, NJ, the son of the late Gordon M. Eyler and Esther B. (nee Boyle) Eyler, he was raised in Paterson and lived throughout NJ before settling in Raritan Township twenty-five years ago.
Gordon began a career in law enforcement as a patrolman in the Newark Police Department before becoming a detective with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. He retired after spending twenty-five years on the job where he then went to work for the New Jersey State Police as a civilian analyst.
Gordon was a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges, NJ where he had also been a Eucharistic Minister for many years. In retirement he became an avid golfer and cyclist spending many days on the golf courses and riding his bike in New Jersey and Florida.
Besides his parents, Gordon was predeceased by his brother, Frank B. Eyler.
Gordon is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, JoAnn (nee Gaven) Eyler with whom he joined hand in Holy Matrimony on June 18, 1966; two loving children, Gordon M. Eyler, III and his wife Lee Ann of Whitehouse Station, NJ and Katherine and her husband Charles Cataldi of Apex, NC. He was a proud grandfather of six grandchildren, Alyssa, Emily, Megan, Jessica, Abigail, and Daniel; and three great grandchildren, Emerson, Maxwell, and Claire.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Friday, October 6, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, October 7 from 10-10:30 a.m. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, October 7, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thomas J. Serafin, V.F., KCHS officiating. Committal words and interment will follow at St. Magdalen Cemetery in Flemington.
