Harold R. Dilts
Former Owner of Three Bridges Exxon

Bridgewater, NJ – Harold R. Dilts, 84, entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 21, 2006 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born and raised in Three Bridges to his late parents George & Helen (Mundy) Dilts, he moved to Somerville in 1986 and most recently to the Brandywine Assisted Living at Middle Brook Crossing located in Bridgewater a year ago.


Harold was honorably discharged after faithfully serving his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during WWII from December 1941 to December 1945. Harold was the proud owner and operator of the Three Bridges Exxon Gas Station, formerly known as ESSO, located in Three Bridges for over 40 years. He was a life member of the Flemington American Legion, Post #159, a member of the Stangle Club and in his spare time along with his late wife Rhoda, they enjoyed collecting antiques.

Harold was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Rhoda E. (Hughes) Dilts who passed away in March of 2005.

He leaves behind his children; Thomas and wife Susan Dilts of Somerville, Brenda S. Bowen and Thomas Langan of Toms River and George W. Dilts of Manville. He also leaves behind his siblings; Emma V. Dilts of Flemington and Doris and husband Stanley Yard of Three Bridges, four grandchildren; Stephen and wife Elizabeth Dilts of Hampton, Brian Dilts of Philadelphia, Amy Dilts of Highland Park and Juliet Bowen of San Francisco, CA and many nieces and nephews all of whom will miss him dearly.

A funeral service reflecting on Harold's life by his family and friends will be held on Friday, August 25, 2006 beginning 11:00am at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887. At the family's request, final disposition will be private. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at the funeral home on Thursday, August 24, 2006 from 2-4 & 7-9pm and on Friday from 10:15am until service time. Memorial contributions may be sent in Harold's name to the Wellness Community of Central Jersey, 3 Crossroad Drive, Bedminster, NJ 07921.
