Helen Ann
Pedrani
Oct 27, 1933 — Oct 16, 2024
Whitehouse Station
Whitehouse Station, NJ--Helen Ann (nee Boymann) Pedrani, 90, entered eternal life on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at home with loving family by her side. Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, daughter of the late Fredrick and Anna (nee Neilson) Boymann, she had resided in Union City, NJ, for 30 years, then Verona, NJ, before moving to Whitehouse Station in 2012.
In a family of six children, Helen was the calm, steadying presence. Her quiet confidence was reassuring, even in the most nerve-wracking moments. (E.g., as when her youngest daughter, Susan, came crashing through the door of an inoperable elevator at a summer shore house rental, which sent Helen's husband, Lou, into a short orbit.) While some may have found a scorecard useful to track the stream of visitors and friends that frequented the Pedrani home, Helen welcomed each person warmly and individually. And with her in laws, Helen transcended the usual relationship to become more of a trusted friend and advisor…truly a remarkable accomplishment.
Steadfast in faith, Helen was a parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes in Whitehouse Station, and previously at Our Lady of the Lake in Verona and St. Michael's Monastery in Union City, where she served as a eucharistic minister, CCD teacher, and Pre-Cana counselor. Empathetic and compassionate, Helen was mindful of the plight of others, including volunteer work for elderly hospice patients. Perhaps most inspiring, however, Helen was a concerned listener, open-minded, and selfless, qualities that unfortunately are often in short supply in a self-absorbed world. She was helpful but never imposed her ideas, often concluding "it's their life".
Above all, we remember her great smile and infectious laugh. We carry that with us.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis C. Pedrani; sister, Peggy Schaefer; and brother, Fredrick Boymann.
Helen is survived and will be deeply missed by her loving children, Karen and her husband Jeff Matulay of White House, NJ, Michael Pedrani and his wife Kathy of Ridgefield Park, NJ, Joanne and her husband Gary Brune of Princeton, NJ, Charlie Pedrani and his wife Vivien of Wyckoff, NJ, Susan and her husband Michael Iannelli of Bridgewater, NJ, and Stephen Pedrani and his wife Michele of Branchburg, NJ; 16 cherished grandchildren and 13 adored great grandchildren.
