Howard V. Savery, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, by his parents, the late Howard A. and Mary A. (née Maher) Savery, he relocated to Branchburg, New Jersey in 1998.

Howard graduated from St. Peters High School in Staten Island, New York with the class of 1951. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. During his service, he was stationed aboard the USS Lindenwald, an Ashland-class dock landing ship. Following his military service, Howard pursued further education at the Mondel Institute Drafting School. He began his professional career in 1956 as a draftsman at Gibbs & Cox, Inc. where he spent the next 39 years, retiring in 1995 as the Assistant Division Head of the Design Division.

During his service aboard the USS Lindenwald, he transported supplies to Greenland and traversed the Arctic Circle. Howard had a deep love for travel. During his career he traveled internationally to Europe, South Africa, and the Middle East.

Following his retirement, he traveled broadly with his wife by both air and sea. Together, they explored National Parks and visited Panama City to behold the engineering feat of the Panama Canal.

Howard's naval service and career engendered a passionate interest in ships. A history enthusiast, he enjoyed studying World War II naval battles, particularly those in the South Pacific. He took great pleasure in watching videos depicting the construction of warships, especially those of the destroyer class.

Howard treasured spending time with his family, particularly during holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. He relished time with his children and grandchildren, hearing their stories and watching them grow. To his grandchildren, he was peaceful, funny and supportive "Grandpa Howard", loved by all.

Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Gertrude R. (nee Bafumo), four loving children, Elise and her husband Ken Ferrara of Neshanic Station, New Jersey, Howie and his wife Michele of New York, New York, Trudie and her husband James Boland of Flemington, New Jersey, and Christine and her husband Paul Smith of New York, New York; 10 cherished grandchildren, Kenny, John, Brian, Nicole, Matthew, Jimmy, Thomas, Sophie, Abigail, and Bea; an adored great-grandson, Jack; and dear sister-in-law, RoseMarie Losquadro and brother-in-law, Sal Bafumo.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing at Countryside Funeral Home, situated at 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 9:45 to 11:45 a.m. The funeral services will commence with transfer prayers at the funeral home at 11:45 a.m. Following this, the funeral Mass will take place at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges at 12:30 p.m. with Fr. Thomas J. Serafin, VF, KCHS officiating. Committal prayers and entombment will occur at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in East Hanover, NJ.
