Obituary

The singing has been stilled. Our beloved Mom, Isabel Oliu, of Readington, NJ, known to family and friends as Oma, died on December 16, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Known for her positive outlook and for her love of singing, she was born on August 28, 1931 in Barcelona, Spain.

During her 88 years of life, she moved 30 times across 3 continents, had 7 children and 12 grandchildren, spoke 4 languages, loved reading, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and was always ready for an "adventure." A talented alto who could always be heard singing as she went about her day, she met our Dad in a Barcelona choral group, the Orfeo Laudate. Their harmonizing continued at home and in a variety of choral groups in New Jersey.

Oma was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Ramon Oliu, and her grandson, Ian Oliu. Survivors are daughter, Elisabeth, sons and daughters-in-law, Jorge and Robin, Ramon, Jr. and Leslee, Edward and Patricia, who lovingly and faithfully took care of her, and with whom she lived, Michael and Elvira, John and Roberta, and Paul and Heidi.

Grandchildren are Brian (spouse, Tasha Coryell), Rebecca Birmingham (partner, Matthew Weingarden), Andrew (fiancé, Natalie Yubas), Timothy, Michael, Rachel, Frank, Sean, Zachary, Marc, and Luke.

Survivors also include many family members in Spain, including sisters-in-law, Mari-Cruz Herberg i Ramos, Montserrat Oliu Carol, Rosamaria Busquets i Oliu, and brother-in-law, Josep Maria Busquets i Galera.

The Oliu family would like to thank her three caregivers, Joelma Andrade, Flaiane Ribeiro and Eliza Custodio for their kindness and attentiveness to Oma and gratefully acknowledge her cardiologist, Dr. Patrick Saulino, who, with his medical skills and compassionate care, helped her live a longer, fuller life.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon (with an 11:00 am religious service officiated by Deacon Raul Pamplona) at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 North Route 202, Three Bridges, NJ followed by a repast at Stanton Ridge Golf and Country Club, 25 Clubhouse Drive, Whitehouse Station, NJ.
