James A.
Hager
Oct 1, 1934 — Apr 22, 2020
James Augustus Hager October 1, 1934 - April 22, 2020.
Born in Newark, NJ to the late Augustus "Gus" and Margaret (Kapper) Hager, he graduated Essex County Vocational School in 1952. He joined the United States Navy and was a Seabee in the construction and demolition battalion. He married the late (2007) Joan Girgenti in 1956.
Jim is survived by son James Hager and daughter in law Brenda (Sporman) Hager of Ringoes, granddaughter Carley Joan Hager, and sister Rose Cook.
Besides his parents and dear wife, Jim was predeceased by sisters Margaret Adams and Virginia Pollare.
Jim was a lifelong commercial / industrial electrician starting with Valentine Electric (electrician, foreman) of Newark. He formed Hager Electric in 1963, retiring in 2007. He also was an Irvington Township police officer in his younger days, and sort of forced to be a substitute bus driver for James Hager Jr. Inc. in 1989.
Dad suffered a stroke in 1999 and has been going through kidney failure for several years now. Each of the four or so "he is at the end of the line" speeches from Doctors had resulted in him bouncing back. I figured after the first two I'd just believe it when I see it. During the night he used his 9th life.
He always supported my endeavors, carted me around as a kid to watch trains, and he cherished his only grandchild Carley whose birth gave him a new purpose in life after my mom passed.
RIP Speedy.
Private services are entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home. Jim will be entombed at Saint Magdalen de Pazzi Mausoleum in Flemington with his dear wife.
