Obituary

Readington Township, NJ – John G. Bongiorno, 83, died Sunday, July 10th, 2005 at his home on Old York Road in Three Bridges with his family at his bedside. John was born in Bound Brook, NJ on November 11, 1921, the first son of Frank and Adeline (Consoli) Bongiorno. He lived in Bound Brook for 46 years before moving to Three Bridges in 1968.

In his youth, John was a Boy Scout who liked to hunt and fish. His lifelong passions were reading and cooking. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army having faithfully served his country during World War II. After returning home from the service, John owned and operated John's Confectionary in Bound Brook for eighteen years and later became a MetLife Agent in Somerville retiring thirty-three years ago. He was a member of the Thomas J. Kavanaugh Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2290 and the American Legion Post #304 both in Manville and a former member of the Bound Brook Moose Lodge. John enjoyed traveling with his wife, and they vacationed in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Canada, Alaska and all through the United States.

John was predeceased by his eldest son, Martin Bongiorno, who died in 1970.

John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lucretia (Moore) Bongiorno, two sons John Bongiorno of San Clemente, CA and Robert Bongiorno of Three Bridges, NJ, four daughters Lorraine Moe and her husband Ray of Fort Collins, CO, Debbie McCarthy and her husband Tom of Trenton, NJ, Judy Beitz and her husband Dan of Turnerville,NJ, and Janice Kindon of Elba, AL. He is also survived by his grandsons Adam, Bryan and Eric Beitz and Max Moe. In addition he leaves two sisters, Tomasina "Mae" Bongiorno of Somerville, NJ and Claire Bongiorno of Southbury CT, as well as two brothers Frank Bongiorno of Millstone, NJ and Dominic Bongiorno of King of Prussia, PA.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2005 beginning 11:00am at the Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 with Father Thomas J. Serafin of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges officiating. Relatives & friends are invited to attend the calling hours at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00am until service time. John will be entombed in the mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Memorial Contributions to the Hunterdon Medical Center Cancer Center or Hunterdon Hospice both located via 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822 would be appreciated.
