Obituary

John S. Kaldes, age 76, fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born in 1949 in Plagia, Mytilini, Greece, son of the late Socrates and Venetia (née  Politis) Kaldes, he immigrated to the United States of America in 1974 and lived in New York, Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom, and moved to Ringoes, New Jersey 21 years ago.

While in Greece, John served his homeland with honor as a 2nd lieutenant in the Greek Army. He had a background in engineering, having worked for several global pharmaceutical companies and retired three years ago. After leaving Greece, John carried his "torch of faith" with him, which significantly contributed to his role in helping establish St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church in Flemington, New Jersey. He was an active parishioner of the church, serving as the president of the Parish Council for 13 years and relishing the opportunity to volunteer and cook at the church's annual Flemington Opa! Greek Festival. Furthermore, he was an entrepreneur and co-launched with his sons Kaldi, a specialty food business. His enthusiasm for cooking led him to create his own cookbook entitled Made In Greece: A guided tour of Greek cooking.

John is survived and will be profoundly missed by his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Zoi (née  Konstantinidis) Kaldes, with whom he joined hands in Holy Matrimony on January 12, 1975; his loving sons, Peter Kaldes and his partner Gregges Burges of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Gregory Kaldes and his wife Roseanna of Weston, Connecticut; and two cherished grandchildren, Despina and Zoe.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church, located at 85 Voorhees Corner Road, Flemington, NJ 08822 on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Jimmy presiding. Committal words and interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Flemington. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home, 724 US-202, Three Bridges, NJ 08887.
