Katharina (née Kosmann) Schagh, age 96, entered into eternal life on Monday, April 6, 2026 at home with loving family. Born and raised in Bakonyjako, Hungary, she is the daughter of the late Josef and Karolina (Andl) Kosmann. Katharina had an eventful life. Born in 1929, she came of age during World War II. Being of German descent she was forced by the Russian invasion during the war to flee Hungary to Germany as a teenager. In East Germany after the war, she was a member of the Trumerfrau, women who in the war's aftermath helped clear and reconstruct bombed cities. She, in particular worked in fire bombed Dresden, where there is now a memorial to these remarkable women. She subsequently escaped to West Germany, and with her husband Mathias and six-year-old daughter Susanna emigrated to the United States in 1959 to Paterson, New Jersey Katharina was naturalized as a United States citizen in 1976. She and her late husband later moved to Clark, and then in 2011 in East Amwell.
In her free time, Katharina enjoyed cooking, crocheting, reading, watching and rooting for the Yankees and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Three Bridges.
In addition to her parents, Katharina was predeceased by her beloved husband, Mathias Schagh; and two sisters and a brother.
Katharina is survived by her loving children, Susanna and her husband Richard Mamary of Flemington and Katharina and her husband Henry Catenacci of East Amwell; seven cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Howland (Robert), Richard T. Mamary, Michelle Andrews (Joel), Matthew Catenacci, Victoria Catenacci (Paul Lopach), Michael Catenacci (Kaira), and Kathryn Bevilacqua (Gabriel); and eight treasured great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Clara, Chiara, Chelsea, Lucas, Samuel, Zoe, and Desmond.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, located at 105 Summer Road, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 11 a.m. Interment will be private at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home, 724 US-202, PO Box 431, Three Bridges, NJ 08887. Memorial contributions may be made in Katharina's name to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Three Bridges.
