Kenneth J. "Ken" Ferrara passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, surrounded by his family at their home in Neshanic Station, NJ.

It is with profound love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Ken, a remarkable man, who lived life to the fullest. His curiosity, wisdom, integrity, and devotion to family left an enduring mark on all who knew him.

Ken was born and raised in Staten Island, NY, and is the son of the late John J. and Margaret M. (née Hurley) Ferrara.

A lifelong learner, Ken approached the world and life with curiosity, profound knowledge, and passion. He graduated from Prescott High School in Prescott, AZ, then earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English and a minor in History from Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. Ken also studied at the University of Texas, where he enjoyed playing on the practice squad for the Texas Longhorns. He subsequently attained his MBA from St. John's University in New York, NY, and later, completed the Executive Program at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

A voracious reader, Ken was typically reading four books concurrently spanning biographies, history, philosophy, nonfiction, literary classics, novels, and the Bible. His boundless capacity for information was matched only by his eagerness to share it. Whether discussing world events, literature, sports, faith, or history, he was an engaging and animated conversationalist. It was common to leave a discussion with a new perspective, plus a book on the topic from his personal collection.

Ken built a distinguished career in finance over five decades, specializing in credit and risk management. He began his career at Manufacturers Hanover Trust (now JPMorgan Chase), where he innovated the bank's framework, practices, and processes to assess and manage credit risk. Ken brought his expertise, insight, and transformational leadership to financial institutions across the United States, including Bankers Trust, Truist, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, Desert Financial Credit Union, First Citizens Bank, and most recently Federal Home Loan Bank of New York.

While he took pride and found purpose in his career, family was always at the center of his life. Ken and Elise, his wife of forty-nine years, built a marriage rooted in partnership, devotion, and unwavering support. Together they raised three sons, who are a source of pride and joy. His love for his family, immediate and extended, was profound, and he treasured every opportunity to gather, celebrate, and create lasting memories.

Ken and Elise hosted their extended family for Thanksgiving, his favorite holiday, every year since 1980. Thanksgiving perfectly reflects his values and what he cherished most: family, faith, gratitude, meaningful conversation, and exceptional food shared around a crowded table.

Ken had an adventurous spirit, and traveled extensively for business and pleasure, embracing new cultures, experiences, and cuisines. No matter the destination, he always had a recommendation for a fantastic restaurant, hotel, and hidden gem. Some of his favorite places were Grand Cayman, Hawaii, and London, England.

An avid golfer, he reveled in playing world-class courses, notably Pebble Beach, St. Andrews, and Turnberry. Ken was a passionate sports enthusiast, and loved attending games at Lambeau Field, Yankee Stadium, or Madison Square Garden, and watching games with his sons, especially when the Green Bay Packers, the New York Yankees, or the New York Knicks, St. John's Red Storm, the Texas Longhorns, or the Rangers were playing.

Ken's strength of character was evident in his warrior-like battle against cancer. He confronted the illness with courage, grace, a positive spirit, and determination; refusing to let self-pity or anger shape his identity. Deeply faithful, Ken was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church located in Three Bridges, NJ.

Grounded yet brilliant, spiritual yet practical, adventurous yet deeply rooted in his principles, he lived a life defined by integrity. He inspired others through his example—his intellectual curiosity, his generosity of spirit, and his devotion to those he loved.

His absence leaves an immeasurable void, but his legacy lives on in the family he created, the friends he inspired, the colleagues he mentored, and the countless lives he touched. He will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but for who he was: a man of wisdom, character, faith, and boundless curiosity.

In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his brother, John E. Ferrara.

Ken is survived and will be deeply missed and forever loved by his beloved wife of forty-nine years, Elise M. (née Savery); his loving children, Ken Jr., John, and Brian, all of Neshanic Station; cherished mother-in-law, Gertrude Savery; dear sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Trudie and her husband, Jim Boland, Christine and her husband, Paul Smith, and Howie Savery and his wife, Michele; four adored nieces, Nicole, Sophie, Abigail, and Beatrice; three treasured nephews, Matthew, Jimmy, and Thomas; and a grandnephew, Jack.

Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing at Countryside Funeral Home, located at 724 US-202, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. with transfer prayers and continue with the funeral Mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 105 Summer Road, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Thomas J. Serafin, V.F., KCHS officiating. Committal words and entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in East Hanover, NJ.
