Annandale, NJ—Louis "Lou" F. Duffy, 83, entered into eternal life on Friday, April 15, 2011 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Collingswood, NJ, son of the late James William and Helen Marie (Jennis) Duffy, Sr., he resided in Gillett before settling to Annandale seven years ago.

Lou was a graduate of St. Joseph's University, class of 1951. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a technician fourth grade. He was proud to have served in World War II with his father who was also a World War I veteran and his brother. Lou began his career at Martindale-Hubbell as a Field Sales Representative in 1956, and escalated through the ranks of the company, holding such positions as National Sales Manager until becoming Vice President of Sales in 1978. In 1980 he was promoted to Sr. Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and soon thereafter he was appointed as the Martindale-Hubbell delegate to the American Bar Association (ABA). Lou also established the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Advisory Board in 1990. In 1990 when Martindale-Hubbell was acquired by Reed International of London, he relocated to England to establish the company's first International Headquarters. In 1993, Lou returned to the company's headquarters in New Providence, NJ. There he continued his work in developing the international business as well as working closely with the various worldwide bar associations including the ABA and International Bar Association (IBA). Retiring in 1998, Lou assumed a full time role as International Consultant working on special assignments for the President and CEO of LexisNexis and Martindale-Hubbell while continuing to be the company's delegate to the ABA and other International Bar Associations, worldwide. The LexisNexis Group established the Louis F. Duffy Scholarship in 2006. Andrew Prozes, CEO of LexisNexis Group at the time, stated "[o]ne of Lou's great passions is mentoring young attorneys through the IBA". Lou was the first non lawyer ever to be honored by the ABA for his efforts to the issues of Human Rights and World Peace through Law throughout the world. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale.



Besides his parents, Lou was predeceased by his sister, Sister Mariam Clare Duffy who was a sister of The Sisters of Charity.

Lou leaves behind his beloved wife Barbara Fredericks; loving daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Bob Gallagher of Jacksonville, FL and Beth and Mark Traband of Hightstown, NJ and loving sons, Joe Duffy of Seattle, WA and Paul Duffy of Jacksonville, FL; dear stepdaughter Danielle Fredericks of New York City and St. Barth, dear brother James Duffy, Jr. of West Chester, PA. He will be deeply missed by his four cherished grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Tuesday, April 19 from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, April 20 from 9:30-10:00 a.m.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 20 beginning 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale. At the family's request the disposition will be private.
