Lucia Canonico De Sapio was born on Palm Sunday, April 13*, 1930 (*birth legally registered on April 17) in Monteforte Irpino, Italy.

She was the 7 ^th child of Nicola Canonico and Ermelinda Amodeo.

During her childhood she endured the hardships and devastation of World War II; however, she was surrounded by a loving and large extended family who always supported each other through good times and bad.

She was married on February 5, 1950 to Martino J. De Sapio in the Chiesa del Purgatoria in Monteforte Irpino by Padre Crescenzo Amodeo. Her husband returned to America and she immigrated to the U.S. on May 2, 1951 after a 9-day ocean voyage arriving in New York City on the USS Independence.

Lucia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was constantly cooking for her family and will be remembered for her homemade pizza, ravioli, and eggplant parmigiana.  She was an avid reader, passionate gardener, enjoyed all handwork, and was a brilliant knitter and seamstress with the ability to design her own patterns.  She loved dancing and found humor in the simplest things. She was devoted to the Blessed Mother and recited the rosary daily.

Lucia leaves behind her loving and devoted children: Gaetano (Janet), Antonio (Sandra), Maria, Carmine, Rita, Sally and Vincent (Robin); her dear sister, Filomena Canonico; ten adored grandchildren, Nicole and Michael De Sapio, Martin De Sapio, Lucia De Sapio Kostesic (Andy), Ryan and Andrew Holliday, Billy and Lucia, Robert and Marty De Sapio; two precious great grandchildren, Luciano and Adriana Kostesic; as well as many nieces and nephews in the United States and Italy.  Sadly, Lucia was predeceased by her beloved husband Martino J. De Sapio and cherished grandson Nicola Roccio.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, New Jersey 08887 on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, January 28 from 8-9 a.m.

Funeral services will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28 ^th at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at Our Lady of Victories Church, 1005 Route 519, Baptistown, NJ 08803 with Fr. Kris Kaczynski officiating.  Lucia will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at St. Magdalen Cemetery in Flemington.
