Woodbridge, CT – Mae Loretta (nee Young) Giarrusso,95 , entered into eternal life on Saturday, October,29,2022 at "The Willows" with loving family by her side.  Born and raised in East Newark, NJ, daughter of the late George and Alice (nee Holt) Young, she lived in Wayne, NJ after marriage and then lived in Montclair, NJ for twenty years before settling on a farm in Hillsborough, NJ in 1978.  Mae continued to call Hillsborough home for a few years after her husband's death.  Selling the family farm soon after her husband's passing, she then resided at Stonebridge Assisted Living in Skillman, NJ before moving to Woodbridge, CT.

As matriarch of the Giarrusso family, Mae was an avid genealogist and historian.  In her studies of the family history, Mae uncovered the fact that her great-great-grandfather, Charles V. Young had not actually gone AWOL while serving during the Civil War, but in fact had been killed in action during the Battle of Cold Harbor in Virginia.  She also traced her roots back to multiple Revolutionary War veterans. In her younger years, Mae served on the Board of Yacht Club of Sea Isle City, NJ, loved to bowl, and loved to travel, but her greatest passion in life was raising and caring for her family.

Besides her parents, Mae was predeceased by her beloved husband John Giarrusso on February 27, 2012 and with whom she joined hands in marriage on November 22, 1947.  Youngest of eight children, Mae was predeceased by all of her siblings as well as daughter-in-law, Marge Giarrusso (Tom).

Mae is survived by her loving children, Beverly and her husband Peter Simons of Albuquerque, NM, Evelyn and her husband John Kish of Ansonia, CT, John Giarrusso Jr. and special friend Eve Gardner of Exeter, NH, Thomas Giarrusso of Hope Mills, NC, James Giarrusso and his wife Heather of Hillsborough, and Marianne and her husband Lee Smith of Winston Salem, NC; fourteen cherished grandchildren; and seventeen adored great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 2-6 p.m. and on Monday, November 7 from 10-11 a.m. with the funeral service starting at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Chris Kile officiating.  Committal words and entombment will follow in the mausoleum chapel at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mae's name to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas TX, 75231 or www.heart.org .
