It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Maureen E. Cowhey, a resident of Bridgewater, NJ, and previously of Somers, NY,  on March 30, 2025 at the age of 93 surrounded by her family.

Maureen attended the University of Connecticut at Storrs and pursued a nursing career.   Later in life, she obtained her real estate license and enjoyed selling real estate for over 25 years.   Maureen was so proud of her Irish heritage.  She was well known for her ever-present smile, infectious laugh, unwavering kindness and generosity, and her love of travel.   She found great joy playing bridge with her close friends, attending Mass, and listening to Irish music.

Maureen was the daughter of John Duffy of County Tyrone, Ireland, and Elizabeth Mary Mortell of County Limerick, Ireland being born on May 14, 1931 in the Bronx, New York.  After the passing of her parents in 1937 and 1939, respectively, Maureen was raised by her maternal aunt, Alice Mary Mortell of White Plains, New York, where she attended Catholic schools.   In 1960, she married the late Honorable James R. Cowhey.   She is survived by her four children: Catherine E. Wanner (Adrian), James R. Cowhey III, Mary Beth Antonello  (John), and Diana McDermott (the late Sean A. McDermott).  She is also survived by her grandchildren:  Elizabeth D. Wanner, Nicholas J. Wanner (Anam), Katrina M. Wanner, Julie C. Antonello, Christopher T. Antonello, Jack Antonello, and Leixa D. McDermott, and many nieces and nephews.   She is predeceased by her siblings Francis J. Duffy, Alice V. Delaney, and Gertrude T. Sahre.

A private Mass will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 2:00 pm at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges, NJ 08887.
