Obituary

Clinton Township, NJ– Michael J. Nelson, 52, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at home with loving family and friends by his side. Born and raised in Amsterdam, NY, son of the late William and Josephine (Mancini) Nelson, he had resided in Rouses Point, NY and Monroe, NY before settling in Clinton Township in 2011.

Michael was an analytical chemist, devoting most of his career to Wyeth Pharmaceuticals out of Pearl River, NY. He attended Amsterdam High School and graduated from Hartwick College. Michael was an avid car enthusiast and drummer. He also enjoyed building customized drums, and repairing computers and electronic devices. Michael was a parishioner of St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church in Flemington. The true measure of his life was in his dedication and commitment to his family. He embraced all of his children's activities and loved to have the house filled with friends and laughter. He will be remembered for his generosity and humor - "Papa Nelson" will be missed by many.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Stephanie (Assimon) Nelson; three cherished children, Nicholas, Christina and Anna; brother John Nelson and wife Carol of Niskayuna, NY and sister Christine Lorusso-Sherwood and husband Walter of Glenville, NY. He will also be missed by his nephews, Michael Lorusso, Christopher Nelson and James Assimon as well as brother-in-law, Thomas Assimon and wife Cheryl of Fayetteville, NY.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Monday, October 6 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with a Trisagon Memorial Service at 7:15 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 7 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church located at 85 Voorhees Corner Road, Flemington, NJ 08822 with Fr. Anastasios Kousoulas presiding. Michael will be laid to rest at Prospect Hills Cemetery in Flemington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Michael's memory to St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church, 85 Voorhees Corner Road, Flemington, NJ 08822 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
