Oppathai Ravanan, P.E. passed away November 12, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.  He was 81 years old.  Oppathai was born June 1st, 1943 to parents Oppathai Mudallar and Tharabhai Oppathai, in Madras, India.

In 1985, Oppathai came to the United States of America.  He was a licensed professional engineer in both New York and New Jersey who held two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, who worked as a civil engineer for YOR Engineering, PLLC in Astoria, Queens.

He was also an active member of the New York and New Jersey Tamil Sangams, in addition to holding a chairman position in the Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America in 1994.

Ravanan was a kind-hearted, fun-loving individual who had a zest for life with a great sense of humor and a unique knack for story-telling, who was universally loved.

Ravanan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Meena, son Yogesh and his daughter in law Jasmine Ravanan, daughter Bhavani Ravanan, grandchildren Janani, Ary, Asher, Leah and his three sisters.  He is predeceased by his parents and his two brothers.

A viewing will take place at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, New Jersey 08887 on Thursday, November 14th, 2024 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 15th, 2024 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Franklin Memorial Park, 1800 NJ 27, North Brunswick, NJ.
