Three Bridges, NJ—Russell Alfred Funk, 78, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ with loving family by his side. Born in Cranford, NJ, son of the late Irvin and Myrtle (nee Grupe) Funk, he lived in Garwood from ages 13 to 30 before moving to Plainfield for 50 years and settling to Three Bridges in 2017.

Russell enjoyed fishing, hunting, classic cars, and most importantly spending quality time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Attending his grandchildren's sporting and school events brought him great joy. Russell retired from Lermer Packaging in Garwood and Philipsburg as an Injection Molding Supervisor. Russell was also the proud owner and operator of Big Funk's hot dog stand located on Park Avenue in Plainfield.

Besides his parents, Russell was predeceased by a son, Jonathan Funk; his daughter, Heidi Funk; brother-in-law, Richard Reinhardt; brother-in-law, Kenneth Reinhardt and his wife Lynn; and in-laws, Anton and Ella Reinhardt.

Russell is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-nine years, Judi E. (nee Reinhardt) Funk with whom he joined hands in marriage on June 25, 1960; two dear children, Russell Lester Funk and his wife Jill Ann of Kure Beach, NC and Joshua Alan Funk and his wife Colleen Allison of Readington, NJ; sister-in-law, Shirley and former husband Harry Wansaw; brother-in-law, David Reinhardt and his wife Sis; brother-in-law, Robin Reinhardt and his wife Martha; and sister-in-law, Kathy and her husband Robert McGee and cousins, Joan Schasney and Richard Slater. He will be deeply missed by two cherished grandchildren, Cadence Quinn Funk and Brady Jonathan Funk.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Three Bridges Reformed Church, 470 Main Street, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Saturday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a gathering of friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Russell's name to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue New York, New York 10065.
