It was on a cold, snowy Christmas night at the Sebring Farm in Neshanic, NJ that a "bundle of joy" was brought into this world in her grandparents farmhouse, Ruth Sebring (Miller) Egan, first born to Theodore and Mabel (Sebring) Miller. Ruth's childhood was spent in Somerville and at age 15 the family moved back to Neshanic. Over the years, Ruth's life evolved throughout the United States and four years ago once leaving Amherst, VA she came home to Neshanic to reside with her eldest daughter Nancy.

It was at the request and encouragement of the family doctor, Dr. Samuel H. Husted, founder of the original Foothill Acres Nursing Home in Neshanic, that Ruth became a registered practical nurse (charge nurse) RPN in charge of the 3-11 p.m. shift. It was there Ruth took her final breath three days after her 92nd birthday and went to heaven to "hang out" with her beloved husband Richard. Ruth also worked for RCA in Bridgewater and was a school bus driver with George Kane Bus Company. Family was of utmost importance to Ruth and her greatest pleasure in life was caring for her beloved Richard with whom she had joined hands in marriage on April 14, 1962. It was prior to his death in 2009 that the couple returned to New Jersey. Some of her favorite pastimes included cooking, knitting, crotcheting, crossword puzzles, trips to the casino, and "Attitude Adjustment Hour" with her husband daily at 5 p.m. SHARP !

Ruth is survived by her three children and grandchildren from her first marriage, to the late, Arthur T. Collins, Sr., Nancy M. Mathewson and husband Walt of Neshanic and their children, Walt "Eddie", Dale and Randy; Karen Ann Zalewski and husband Jack of Neshanic Station and their children, Sharon, John and Kevin; Arthur T. "Teddy" Collins, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Amherst, VA and their children Hunter and Madison; also by Richard T. Egan, her second husband of 46 years children, whom she raised as her own, Richard B. and Jean, James D. and Susan, Thomas W. and Julie, Michael J. and Termina Egan and Diane Jenkins; two daughter-in-laws, Cheryl Collins and her son Kyle and Carolyn Egan. Left behind to cherish her memory, sister Elsie Rimides of Sarasota, FL; a dear childhood friend whom she considered as her 5th sister, Ruth S. Hartman of Andover; seven additional grandchildren ; eleven great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by five siblings, Rita Zulauf, Mabel "May" Van Cleef, Henrietta "Honey" Cassidy and Theodore "Teddy" Miller. For all those who touched Ruth's life during her final years with us, through her time spent at Avalon, staff at Foothill Acres especially Jennifer Adamcik, and grandma's "other Richard", we, the family can't thank you enough!

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitiation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Friday, January 24 from 5-8 p.m. and on Saturday, January 25 from 11:30 a.m.- 12:15 p.m.
Funeral services will begin on Saturday, January 25 at 12:15 p.m. at the funeral home followed by a 1:00 p.m. funeral liturgy at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 105 Summer Road, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 with Fr. Thomas J. Serafin officiating.
