Flemington, NJ– Salvatore "Sal" Gullo, 85, entered into eternal life on Monday, August 17, 2015 at home with loving family by his side. Born in Italy, in the town of Linguaglossa (Sicily), son of the late Giovanni and Antonina (La Guzza) Gullo. He and his family immigrated to the USA in 1972 and lived in New York (Bronx). Following his retirement he then resided in Flanders, NJ in 1995 and settled in Flemington, NJ in 2003.
As a young man, Sal faithfully served in the Italian Military. In Italy, he worked for over 20 years as an Estate Manager. In the US, he worked in the Housekeeping Department at the Lady of Mercy Hospital in the Bronx, from which he retired after 25 years. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing cards with friends and family, completing jigsaw puzzles, bird watching, and he was an antique car enthusiast. The true measure of his life was in his dedication and commitment to his family and the beauty of his garden.
Besides his parents, Sal was predeceased by his beloved wife, Giuseppa (Cavallaro) Gullo on August 25, 1995.
Sal is survived by two loving children and their spouses, John Gullo and Lisa Edwards of New York City, NY and Toni and Leric Nicholas of Flemington. He will also be missed by his brother-in-law, Jerry Cavallaro and his wife Grace.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Thursday, August 20 from 6-9 p.m. and on Friday, August 21 from 9:15-9:45 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21 beginning 9:45 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. The disposition will take place on Saturday, August 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sal's name to a botanical garden of your choice.
