Readington Township, NJ –Salvatore Daniel "Chip" La Russo, 85, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at his residence. Born in Newark to his late parents Angelo and Mary (Romano) LoRusso, he resided in Somerville and Irvington before settling to Readington Township 2 ½ years ago.

Salvatore was honorably discharged from the United States Army having faithfully served his country with the 2nd Armor Division during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient. He retired in 1994, as a senior lab technician, having been employed at Bristol-Myers Research & Development located in Hillside, NJ and was a member of the company's Quarter Century Club. Salvatore was a faithful communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges and a member of the Bridgewater Elks.

Besides his parents, Salvatore was also predeceased by his beloved wife Ann (Catapano) La Russo in 1986 and by his five dear brothers, Andy, Bill, Joe, Angelo and Anthony.

He leaves behind his loving and devoted children; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert R. and Debra La Russo of Ocean, NJ; daughter and son-in-law Susan (La Russo) and Richard "Rick" Evans, Jr. of Readington Township; his dear sister Beatrice Calabrese of Toms River. Salvatore will be deeply missed by his six adored grandchildren: granddaughters, Lauren, Christie, Jacquelyn, Erika and Karlee Rose; grandson: Eric Coles and by one precious great granddaughter Juliana. Chip also left behind his true love, the horses at Monmouth Park Racetrack.




Funeral services will be held on Monday, January, 12, 2009 beginning 9:15am at the Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 followed by a 10:00am funeral liturgy at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 105 Summer Road, Three Bridges, NJ 08887. Salvatore will be entombed at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at the funeral home on Sunday, January 11, 2009 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm and on Monday, January 12, 2009 from 8:30am until service time.
