Readington Township, NJ- Stella (nee Soumakis) Kalamaras, 90, entered into eternal life on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, NJ. Born in Anavryti, Greece, daughter of the late Stavros and Demetra (nee Chrysomalis) Soumakis, she immigrated to the United States in 1951 and lived in Perth Amboy, NJ until 1999 when she settled in Readington, NJ.
Family was of the utmost importance to Stella. She was the matriarch of a large and loving family. Stella (Stiliani in Greek) was named after Saint Stilianos, protector of children; and fittingly, she loved raising her daughters, looked after and cared for her grandchildren, and welcomed friends and new members into her growing family. She hosted countless family dinners, making everyone feel special and loved, she enjoyed the company and loved to laugh. Hobbies included sewing, cooking and baking traditional Greek foods, including her signature kourabiedes, staying active by walking every day, sitting and relaxing on her deck enjoying a glass of Sangria, and keeping up with the current events and news of the United States and around the world. She loved America and was proud to be an American citizen. Stella was a parishioner of Saint Anna Greek Orthodox Church in Flemington.
Besides her parents, Stella was predeceased by her beloved husband, James P. Kalamaras on June 19, 1992; sister, Georgia Pergantis; and brother, Vasilios Soumakis.
Stella is survived by five loving daughters, Grace and her husband Efstratios Theofanopoulos of Sparta, Greece, Dorothy and her husband Christopher Cassidy of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Christine and her husband Wayne Huber of Avenel, NJ, Patty and her husband Joseph Bruno III of Calabash, NC, and Katina Foglia of Readington, NJ; dear brothers, Thanasi Soumakis and Theodoris Soumakis. She will be deeply missed by ten cherished grandchildren, Rita and her husband Panagioti Katsihtis, James Theofanopoulos and his wife Magdalini, Katina and her husband Tyler Sammis, Kerianne Cassidy, Candice Huber Rienzo and her husband Tony, Eric Huber, Alexis Huber, Joseph Bruno IV, James Bruno, and Demetri Foglia; and seven adored great grandchildren, Ioanni, Dimitra, Michaela, Colin, Joel, Alessandra, and Beckham.
