Virginia M. Soffel, age 95

Flemington, NJ – Virginia M. (Pettit) Soffel, 95, entered into eternal life on Monday, September 1, 2008 at her residence. Born in Hornell, NY she was the daughter of the late Lyman and Clara (Hodge) Pettit. Virginia was raised in Brooklyn and resided in Saratoga, NY and New Providence, NJ before settling in Flemington thirty years ago.



Virginia was a homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family over the years. She had a passion for gardening and enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. Virginia was also an avid bridge player. While residing in New Providence she was a member of the Garden Club for many years and the Crestview Club. After moving to Flemington, Virginia had been employed at the Shady Lamp in Liberty Village and volunteered for the Hunterdon Exchange with Hunterdon Medical Center for twenty years.


Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her beloved husband George Fehr Soffel on April 7, 1966, by her loving son John Fehr Soffel, and by her dear brother Lincoln Pettit.

Virginia leaves behind her loving and devoted daughter Lucille Soffel of the Three Bridges section of Readington Township, her dear sister Lucille Phillips of Wayland, Michigan, and her adored niece Gail Hollinger and nephew Scott Phillips. She will be deeply missed by her cherished cousins Dr. Stuart Walker and Francis of Annapolis, MD. Virginia also leaves behind her beloved pet "Tigger Lu".



Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2008 beginning 4:30pm at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 with Rev. Jim DeVries officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at the funeral home on Sunday, September 7, 2008 from 2pm - 5pm.
