Readington Twp., NJ – Walter R. Walker, 89, entered into eternal life on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at his residence with his loving family at his side. Born and raised in Plainfield, NJ to the late Richard F. and Anna A. (Bruss) Walker, he moved to South Plainfield after marriage and settled in Readington in 1973.
Walter was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison in Rutherford where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1967. He was a devout catholic of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges, NJ where he was a 4 th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Having faithfully served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the USS Valley Forge, Walter was an active member of VFW Post #7856 and The American Legion Post #159 in Flemington. Self-employed, Walter was owner of WR Walker Plumbing & Heating. However, what best defines Walter's life is the title "Coach" and the many lives he touched as a baseball coach of the South Plainfield Jr. Little League, the Readington Township Little League, Readington Middle School, American Legion Baseball in Flemington, Delaware Valley Regional High School and Montgomery High School.
A humble and generous man, Walter will be missed by his many friends, players, fellow coaches and customers.
In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by his son, Richard F. Walker and his sister Juanita Arndts of Baltimore, MD.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Jane (nee Traynor) Walker; loving children, Timothy Jerome Walker and his wife Melissa of Annandale, NJ and Mary Grace Hanlon and her husband Michael of Pipersville, PA; cherished grandchildren, Grace Walker Hanlon, Thomas Traynor Hanlon and Tynan Timothy Jerome Walker.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges on November 5, 2022 at 10:45 a.m. with Fr. Thomas J. Serafin, KCHS officiating. Committal words and interment will be private. Donations may be made in Walter's name to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/.
